What is a Bardot Blowout?
From the mind of celebrity hairstylist and Moroccanoil ambassador, Dimitris Giannetos, the goal of this look was festival-appropriate and “effortlessly sick.”
“Kourtney attended Coachella and ‘Bardot blowout’ was the way to go!” Giannetos says. “I wanted to keep her hair effortlessly sick and undone. I started on toweled dry hair and used Moroccanoil Root Boost ($32) for lift and extra volume. Then I blow dried the hair using a round brush and sprayed the hair with with Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray ($32) and used the Moroccanoil Everlasting Curl Titanium Iron ($160) to create some uneven bends in the hair! Lastly, I put a few drops of Moroccanoil Original Treatment ($48) on my palms and combed it through the hair with my fingers.”
This look references French icon, singer and actor Brigitte Bardot, who dominated the 50s-70s as an international cool girl and sex symbol. The Bardot blowout style pays homage to her intentional but effortless hairstyles, known for her undone and tousled look.
How to get the Bardot Blowout
At the crux of the Bardot blowout (or any effortless-looking blowout, for that matter) is volume.
“You need hair that has volume at the roots and movement throughout the ends,” explains Chicago hairstylist and Pureology educator, Elyse Clark. “Specifically with the Bardot blowout, a good shape from a well maintained haircut will result in that tousled look that still has structure.”
And getting that volume comes down to product.
“The right combination or cocktail of products will determine how full, how durable and how smooth your finished result is,” explains celebrity hairstylist and KERASILK ambassador, Steven Picciano. “My go-to combo for volume starts with the KERASILK Volumizing Spray ($35), applied to damp hair focusing on the roots and misting over the ends. This product provides soft, touchable volume with amazing hold. Once the product is applied generously, it’s time for the KERASILK Smoothing Blow Dry Creme ($14). This will add smoothness to the ends and a light hold, helping your locks stay the way you intend for days.”
How to style the Bardot Blowout
“In order to achieve this look, you need a layered haircut and a fringe section styled to drape around the face,” explains Clark. “It is important to ask for texture inside the haircut to help achieve the volume, wispiness and movement.”
And when it comes to styling, Clark advises reaching for a boar bristle brush to maximize the volume. “It is also helpful to set your sections when blow drying while they are still warm with a velcro roller or simply wrapping around your fingers and setting with flat clips until the hair is cool,” she adds. “You’ll want to twist the sections out when dropping down for added texture. This will give a lasting hold and hair that still looks good on day two or three after it’s been in the bedroom.”
“After your blowout, for a tousled bedroom vibe, it’s time to mess it up just a bit,” Picciano instructs. “Flip your head over and blow cool air through the roots throughout. Once you’ve done that, add a bit of texturizing spray and scrunch into your hair. Flip and shake and you will have the best bedroom hair.”
