By ·

Actress Tamera Mowry—you probably know her from the ’90s sitcom Sister, Sister, on which she starred opposite her twin sister Tia—has been in the public eye for more than 20 years. At 38, she’s now married, a mom of two and a cohost of the daytime talk show The Real. Between juggling her career and family life, the star found time to catch up with us about her beauty goals for 2017, her passion for cooking and so much more.

NewBeauty: Has wearing “TV makeup” taken a toll on your skin all these years?
Tamera Mowry: Actually, it hasn’t taken a toll on my skin because I have a great makeup artist that gives me a mini facial after she takes it off. It doesn’t hurt that my makeup artist is also a licensed aesthetician!

NB: Speaking of makeup, what are your can’t-live-without beauty products?
TM:
My “Ruby Woo” red lipstick by MAC—it SAVES my date night! I also love my Maybelline mascara that I wear every day. For skin care, iS Clinical Cleansing Complex (it’s great because it’s gentle on my skin, but gets rid of all my makeup) and reSURFACE Retinol Reform Cream by Shani Darden—both of these were recommended by my facialist. Two other products I always use: sunscreen and coconut oil (it’s great for EVERYTHING!).

NB: What beauty resolutions would you like to make this year?
TM:
Always moisturize my face before going to bed—it makes a huge difference! And put sunscreen on my face every day. I also want to start wearing my natural hair more!

NB: We know you like to dabble in the kitchen and post recipes on Instagram, and your sister has her own show on the Cooking Channel. Do you both share the same passion for food?
TM: Yes! She is more well-known as the cook out of the two of us. I’m the baker; I love to bake so many sweet things. However, I have some killer dinner recipes under my belt!

NB: Are there any healthy food swaps you’ve made this year that have really made a difference in your diet?
TM:
I have started to adapt to a more paleo lifestyle. It works for me. Little switches for me have been going from regular mayo to avocado mayo.

NB: Does working out come easily to you or do you have to push yourself to break a sweat?
TM:
I have to push myself! But I do Pilates three times a week and Zumba three times a week.

NB: Do you incorporate any wellness practices into your lifestyle?
TM:
This is one of the things I need to work on. I am trying to incorporate massages into my routine. And finding a few moments every day to meditate, which can be challenging with my work schedule and two children under five.

NB: How do you balance your career with motherhood?
TM:
I take it a moment at a time, and a day at a time. Some days I kill it, and other days I’m a hot mess.

NB: Do you have any hidden talents?
TM: I can salsa dance!
