Does Your Skin Need Copper or Silver Bedding?

The metal-infused bedding trend is picking up speed. Here’s what dermatologists and a cosmetic chemist have to say about it.

Silver- and copper-infused bedding, from pillowcases to fitted sheets, is all over my social media “For You” pages. I must admit, the concept is tempting. It doesn’t add a single step to your skin-care routine: just hit the pillow and wake up with clearer, smoother skin. But is it really legit, or just clever marketing trying to separate us from our hard-earned money?

So what are they supposed to do, exactly? “Silver-infused bedding is generally marketed as antibacterial and acne-fighting, while copper-infused bedding claims wrinkle-reduction and collagen benefits,” explains Omaha, NE dermatologist Daniel Schlessinger, MD.

The real question is whether those benefits actually make the leap from the fabric to your face. To find out, I spoke with Dr. Daniel, fellow Omaha dermatologist Joel Schlessinger, MD, and cosmetic chemist Ginger King about what the trend can and can’t do for acne and wrinkles, and whether it’s worth the splurge over silk or a regularly washed pillowcase. Answers ahead.

Do Silver and Copper Bedding Really Help With Acne and Wrinkles?

There’s no definitive proof yet that either metal does much for breakouts or fine lines, and the experts are skeptical. “Antimicrobial activity on fabric sounds good on paper, but reducing bacteria on a textile does not establish that sleeping on it will meaningfully improve your skin,” says Dr. Daniel.

Cosmetic chemist Ginger King is on the same page. “Both are metal ions that have antimicrobial benefits, so it does make sense for bedding. However, using these in bedding for skin benefits is a stretch,” she says. The most she can imagine is that antimicrobial properties may mean “less acne or blemishes. Nothing beyond that.” (Of course, for anyone prone to breakouts, even that modest payoff would be welcome, if it holds up.)

But before you buy new sheets, Dr. Joel says to start with the pillowcase you already own. “I would prioritize regularly washing it to remove accumulated oil, sweat and product residue before paying extra for metal-infused fabric,” he says. Neither a new pillowcase nor a freshly washed one, he adds, replaces “an effective acne regimen and evaluation and treatment by a board-certified dermatologist.”

When it comes to wrinkles, copper has a bit more going for it. “Small, short-term studies of specific copper oxide pillowcases have reported improvements in wrinkle appearance, so the idea has some preliminary clinical support,” says Dr. Daniel. Still, he isn’t ready to call it a sure thing. “Copper plays a role in normal collagen biology, but that doesn’t mean every copper-infused fabric delivers enough copper to meaningfully rebuild collagen,” he explains. “I would want larger, independent studies before recommending it as an anti-aging investment.”

Are Metal-Infused Sheets Worth It?

Dr. Joel isn’t sold on the splurge. “Silk may be appealing for its smooth feel and reduced friction, while a comfortable, regularly washed standard pillowcase is perfectly reasonable,” he says. His bottom line: “I would not pay a substantial premium for metal infusion expecting proven acne control or wrinkle prevention.”

Still curious? Then it’s worth knowing how long the metal actually sticks around. “Durability depends on how the metal is incorporated into the fabric, and some treatments presumably lose metal during washing, so I would look for testing after repeated laundering,” adds Dr. Joel.

If you do shop, King’s advice is to look for metal that’s embedded in the fabric, not coated on top. “If it’s a coating, it could wash out,” she says. She also thinks brands should show their work, noting that manufacturers “must do the due diligence so consumers know how many washes the product can sustain and whether any skin-related testing was done.” And if your skin runs sensitive, take note: “Some people may have metal sensitivity.”

Best Metal-Infused Bedding of 2026

The experts aren’t convinced that metal-infused bedding, whether sheets, pillowcases, duvets or comforters, can deliver acne control or anti-aging results. But if you’re the don’t-knock-it-till-you-try-it type and want to test the trend for yourself, keep scrolling for some of the buzziest options.

Rest Evercool+ Cooling Starter Sheet Set ($179+)

Rest built its name on Evercool, a line of cooling sheets for hot sleepers, and later added silver with Evercool+. The silver yarn is woven right into the fabric to help with odor and heat, but the brand is refreshingly upfront that its own lab rated the antimicrobial effect as “low.” In other words, buy these to sleep cooler, not for clearer skin. But hey, if your breakouts calm down too, consider it a bonus.

COOP Copper+ Sheet Set ($149+)

COOP, the sleep brand behind the popular adjustable pillows, recently branched into copper-infused bedding with these silky bamboo viscose sheets. The brand says the fabric maintains a 99.9 percent reduction in bacteria through more than 50 washes.

Just don’t take the “skin care woven into your sheets” tagline too literally. The fine print frames the copper as a fabric benefit, not a proven skin-care one.

Clean Skin Club Clean Sleep Silver Ion Pillowcase ($35)

If you already use Clean Skin Club’s disposable face towels, its pillowcase is a natural next step. It’s a soft blend of lyocell, Turkish cotton and bamboo with a silver-ion coating that the brand says prevents up to 99 percent of bacterial growth on the fabric.

Since it’s a coating, it may not last as long as silver built into the fibers. At $35, though, it’s the most affordable pick here, so buying a second one to keep in rotation is doable.

iluminage Skin Rejuvenating Pillowcase with Anti-Aging Copper Technology Duo ($99+)

Of everything on this list, this one makes the biggest promises: brighter skin in as little as two weeks and softer-looking fine lines in as little as four. The idea is that the copper-infused polyester releases copper ions while you sleep. I’d take that with a grain of salt, but the brand does say the technology holds up through more than 100 washes, which is just the kind of durability testing Dr. Joel says to look for.

Silvery Restcool Silver-Infused Cooling Comforter ($150+)

If you’re the one throwing off the covers at 2 a.m., this comforter is worth a look. It’s part of the same cooling line as Silvery’s silver-infused sheets, and the brand says it keeps you cool and dry all night while staying fresh “3x longer.” It doesn’t say whether the silver is woven in or applied as a finish, but a 100-night trial takes some of the risk out of finding out if it works for you.

Bamboo Is Better Copper-Infused Bamboo Duvet Cover ($207+)

This new duvet cover pairs breathable bamboo viscose with copper threads that are woven into the fabric, not sprayed on top. It also gets the practical stuff right: a zipper at the foot and six snap ties inside, so your comforter isn’t balled up in one corner by morning. Just note that it’s the cover only, so you’ll need your own comforter or insert.

Miracle Made Duvet Cover ($119+)

This smooth cotton sateen cover gets its silver from a Swiss-engineered finish, which Miracle Made says cuts up to 99.7 percent of odor-causing bacteria. Because the silver sits on the fabric rather than in the fibers, it’s fair to wonder how it holds up over time.

And not to sound like a broken record, but as with most antimicrobial bedding, the silver is there to keep the fabric fresh, not to treat your skin.
