What is modern Goldilocks?
According to celebrity hairstylist and creator of Kim Kimble Hair Collection by HairUWear and Kimble Beauty, Kim Kimble, this trend is less about a specific shade and more about finding the perfect, lived-in look for you. “Modern-day Goldilocks is all about finding the ‘just right’ blonde that’s neither too warm nor too cool. It’s balanced and multi-dimensional,” she explains. “Goldilocks is softer, with more depth and richness. We’re seeing a lot of lived-in blondes that have a more natural, sun-kissed appearance. It’s not as harsh or high-maintenance as some older blonde trends. The focus is on creating a beautiful, wearable blonde that complements the person’s natural features and enhances their overall look with minimal upkeep.”
That said, modern Goldilocks leans toward the warmer end of the spectrum.
“Warmth is trending across the board, think warm sunny brown base colors with intentional golden highlights,” says Steven Picciano, master stylist, owner of Glass Beauty Bar and Goldwell National Artist. “Tones like honey, wheat and sunflower blonde. Imagine a beautiful blonde at golden hour.”
Finding Your ‘Just Right’ Blonde
Finding the blonde that’s just right for you is a multi-step process for you and your stylist.
“Finding the perfect blonde shade is all about understanding the client’s skin tone, natural hair color and personal style,” Kimble says. “You want to balance warmth and coolness to enhance their natural features. For example, people with warmer undertones look amazing with golden, honey or caramel blondes, while those with cooler undertones tend to suit ashier, platinum or beige tones. It’s also important to take into account their lifestyle and how often they want to maintain their color, some blondes are low-maintenance, while others might require more upkeep.”
And notably, the warm-leaning modern Goldilocks tends to embody the lived-in, naturally sun-kissed look.
“This warm blonde feels very authentic and is easily passed for natural lightening from the sun,” Picciano explains. “It truly favors all skin tones but really sings with a little on the skin making this the perfect shade for the upcoming season.”
