In this day and age, it only takes one viral video to skyrocket a trend back into popularity. From voluminous hair to pencil-thin eyebrows to brown lipstick, tons of ’80s and ’90s beauty trends have been popping up all over TikTok in recent years. Now, with an incredible 12 billion views on the app, this ’80s-staple hairstyle is making its way back into the top spot when it comes to trending cuts.

Yep, you guessed it, the mullet is back. A recent analysis by ThreadSeat has revealed that, since May, searches for the term “mullet” have increased a whopping 80 percent and the #mullet has amassed over 12 billion TikTok views to date. Likely influenced by the rise of ’80s pop culture references that came with the release of the latest season of Stranger Things and the Joe Exotic craze caused by the release of Tiger King back in 2020, the iconic “business in the front, party in the back” hairstyle is undoubtedly making a comeback.

The mullet haircut, which consists of short or shaved hair on the sides of the head and more length on top and in the back, was originally popularized by David Bowie. The mullet style has not only been taking over social media, but has also been seen on the likes of some of today’s hottest celebrities, from Zendaya to Miley Cyrus to Sadie Sink. Move over, bob, the mullet might just be the new cut of the summer!
