Hair-washing timelines are one of the most debated topics in the beauty world today. While some opt for daily washes, other curate a routine that saves several days in between shampoos, and every routine is uniquely personal and dependent on one’s lifestyle, hair type, texture and specific hair concerns and desires.
When it comes to beauty routine advice, celebrities are often the first people we look to. At 53 years old, Kelly Ripa is one of our favorite celebrities to take beauty advice from, as the Live with Kelly and Mark host doesn’t look a day past 30. On a recent episode of her and husband Mark Consuelos’ show, Ripa revealed that she once went two weeks without washing her hair, and the results were shocking.
Why Kelly Ripa Opted to Not Wash Her Hair for Two Weeks
On this Thursday’s episode of Kelly’s eponymous daytime talk show, Ripa got real about her hair and the choice she made recently to go two weeks without washing her hair in search of those model-like, hair-care commercial strands. “They call it oil-training your hair,” Ripa began, “I took an entire vacation, two weeks, where I did not wash my hair. And I just applied oil to the ends of my hair.”
Ripa went on to explain that the first days were tough, as the look and feel of her hair made her desperately want to wash, but after “pushing through,” she was thoroughly impressed with the results. “The first three days, your hair looks disgusting,” the 53-year-old detailed. “But then, something happens, where it suddenly looks amazing. Like you’re in a Breck commercial. It’s bouncing and behaving, it’s settled into its dirtiness.” After her strands “settled into their dirtiness,” as the host put it, her hair’s volume and shine was out of this world. “I looked like a Westminster Dog,” she said positively. “It was like, giant hair. I went back to New Jersey in the ’80s. It was just like, cascading hair.”
