4 Expert Tips for Using Beauty Oil in the Summer
By Margaret McGriff |
There’s no doubt that beauty oils are a great option for achieving moisturized and radiant skin. However, with the rising temps, should we skip them altogether? Not at all! Celebrity aesthetician Renée Rouleau shows us how we can incorporate this skin care favorite into our summer beauty routine.
Post-Summer Skin Fix
From lying out on the beach to taking a dip in the pool, our favorite warm weather activities can take a toll on our skin. Luckily, beauty oil can refresh skin after all that summer fun. “I recommend using a moisturizing oil in the summer post-sun, -pool and -ocean,” advises Rouleau. “All that can be very drying and harsh on skin. Use alone or blended directly into moisturizer to replenish moisture balance lost from heat, chlorine and saltwater.”
A Carry-On Essential
Before boarding the plane for that long-awaited summer vacation, bring your favorite beauty oil with you to keep skin moisturized while you travel. Apply three drops over your daily moisturizer and put it on every hour during your flight to keep your skin looking great by the time you land.
When the sun gets the best of your skin, beauty oil can help treat sunburn. The trick is to use one packed with antioxidants. “Many people have heard of applying aloe vera gel, but I prefer applying something with antioxidants,” Rouleau says. “Because sunburn is the sign of free radical–induced inflammation and skin damage, it may help to lessen the damage that is occurring deep within the skin and encourage repair.” Her favorite? Use It Sparingly
While beauty oils are great for the summer, the key is to use them sparingly, especially on acne-prone skin. Due to the overproduction of oil that comes along with this skin type, using too much can only make your beauty problems worse.
