Marc Jacobs Launches Makeup Line

In the same way it can be difficult for a makeup brand to venture into fashion design, it can be challenging for fashion designers to dive into color cosmetics. That’s not to say it can't be done. Just look at Chanel, YSL and Dior. And now, Marc Jacobs.
Marc Jacobs Beauty, the new collection debuting with Sephora in August is creating a lot of buzz in the beauty world. The launch is a massive undertaking—with products from eyeshadow palettes, nail polishes, foundation and bronzer to lip lacquers and even three unisex products—and it is supposedly infused with Jacobs’ knack for "elegance and whimsy."
With the wild success of his perfumes, it is a natural progression to go from fabric to foundation for this designer. Jacobs says that beauty is the same as fashion—it's all about transforming yourself. "I like the transformative qualities of fashion and fashion to me is not just clothing, it’s handbags, it’s shoes, it’s clothes, it’s hair, it’s makeup, it’s fragrance, it’s the whole ritual of making those choices, of enjoying the ritual, of making the choices that will tell the world who you want to be that day," Jacobs says.
The wide array of colors and products from Jacobs definitely tells a story. This isn't your mother's makeup line. The names and powerful shades in this collection are daring, and anything but boring, just like his fashion. Don't expect many ordinary nudes. "I don’t like natural, that’s a little lazy. But I think there is just a kind of honesty and an ease and an irreverence with this," he says.
