Don’t Knock it Before You Try it: Blue Lipstick

Blue lipstick sounds like something that’s only appropriate for Halloween or a futuristic costume party. In the past, I would agree 100 percent, but that was until I met Hello Sailor by Lipstick Queen ($25).

Don't be scared; this sheer blue color turns into more of a pretty raspberry or plum color when you put in on. It also feels like a lip balm since it contains moisturizing ingredients like vitamin E. Plus, the blue color can actually help make your teeth look whiter and who doesn’t want to improve their smile?

A few of us gave it a try at the office and, not to toot my own horn, it ended up looking the best on me. That’s probably because lip colors with blue undertones tend to work best with fair or cool skin tones. I have fair skin unlike my colleagues with darker skin tones—who were not as impressed when they looked in the mirror after trying.

The verdict: you can totally wear this lipstick on a normal day, especially if you have fair skin. If you have darker skin, don’t worry you can still wear it, just maybe not on its own. I think it would be a great color to mix with other lipsticks or lip stains to create a cool custom color that has a little more pizazz to it.
