How To Keep Your Makeup From Melting In The Summer Heat
By NewBeauty Editors |
The grass is always greener on the other side isn't it? When its cold out, we long for warmer days, and when it's summer, we can't wait for it to cool down again. But as we've still got several months of summer heat ahead (unless you live in Antarctica or some other chilly place), we have to deal with the annoying task of keeping our makeup in place without it melting away. Luckily, we got celebrity makeup artist Desirae Cherman to share her makeup saving tips.
“It's important to keep your makeup natural in the summertime months because it helps to keep your skin clean and clear,” says Cherman. The combination of heat, sweat and oils from our skin and sunscreen makes our pores clog easily and causes breakouts. Also, you don't want to look overdone when you're at the beach or at an outdoor picnic. “You want your makeup to look fresh and minimal. It's the perfect summer look!”
Also, look for products that say “waterproof” or “long-lasting” on them. Waterproof mascara will prevent the color from running and help you avoid the raccoon eye look. A waterproof cream eyeshadow such as Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow ($19) can keep the color from fading and prevent creases.
Another tip is to skip foundation and powder, and use a tinted moisturizer with SPF and concealer to cover blemishes when necessary. If you do need more coverage than that, choose a long wear foundation such as Tarte's Maracuja Miracle 12hr Foundation* ($42) and apply a primer underneath. Stains are also a great way to add lasting color to your cheeks and lips. Cherman loves to use Stila Cheek and Lip Stain in Passionfruit Crush ($24).
Keep in mind that it's not only the heat that makes your makeup melt away, it's also oil too. “Our skin tends to produce more oil in the summertime, so start your morning routine with an oil preventive cleanser and an oil free moisturizer with SPF," she says.
