Vitamin E As An Ingredient Vehicle

Vitamin E has plenty of skin benefits; primarily, it's a healing antioxidant that helps other ingredients perform their best. And now, an Australian biotechnology company called Phosphagenics has come up with a way to harness vitamin E, also known as tocopherol, as a highly effective ingredient envoy in topical skincare products.

Phosphagenics' tocopherol phosphate mixture technology is essentially a delivery system that can enhance the penetration of accompanying ingredients, therefore improving their potential. By adding a phosphate group to vitamin E-a process called phosphorylation-it becomes more stable, yet also more soluble in both oil and water, forming tiny sacs that let molecules permeate skin's barrier more efficiently.

This breakthrough could lead to more effective sunscreens, wrinkle-fighting face creams, and numerous other skincare products. According to cosmeticsdesign.com, a company called Metier Tribeca will be the first to put the technology to use in their new beauty collection, to be introduced in 2010.
