Benefit’s New Site Is Basically Like FaceTune for Your Brows

A couple weeks ago I posted a rare selfie, and while the image was meant to convey nonchalance, the process of achieving it was anything but. From figuring out the lighting and angles to applying fake lashes, there was basically no chill in trying to take a photo that was supposed to show me well, chilling. After the photo went up, I realized my brows looked a little messy, but unlike hiding blemishes or smoothing out unevenness, it takes more than knowing the bare basics of FaceTune to adjust an arch or clean up an end.

Enter: Benefit’s new virtual brow-try on, which is meant to help users test different brow shapes, but doubles as an amazing “brow filter" so you can fix up your brows virtually on any photo.

The concept works like this: The augmented-reality technolgy lives on BenefitCosmetics.com and lets you test out 15 different brow shapes and six different shades with a ton of customization options to to adjust the arch, thickness, definition and placement of your brows. You can take a photo, upload an existing photo or just play around in real time. It’s an easy way to figure out what shape looks best with your features and the AR technology moves with you, so you can check out your new look from all angles. Once you decide on a look, it’s simple to figure out the products needed to achieve it—do you just need a new brow pencil to help you fill in sparse areas, or do you need to head to the salon for a wax? The app will let you know.

While you wait for your products to arrive or set appointment time, the site lets you save or share your photo with your new (and might I add, very realistic-looking) virtual brows, so you can fake it till you make it—on social media at least.
