The 4 Easiest Tips to Fake Fuller Lips

Even if you weren’t born with a plump-looking pout, makeup artists will tell you: There are some ways to make magic happen—just by using certain lip colors. Not sure where to start? Let these shade rules be your guide:

Go for Pale, Pink and Peach
Celebrity makeup artist and ChapStick brand ambassador Matin says usually, the paler the color, the fuller the lips can look. “However, the product shade needs to be just a bit darker than the skin tone, otherwise it erases the lips. A nice beige-pink or peach can make the lips look fuller.”

Don’t Forget to Hit the Corners
Matin says if you “use a slightly darker pencil on the outer corners of the lips and fill-in shading it in a way that the middle part of the lip is bare, it can create the illusion of a poutier mouth.”

A Nod to Natural
Lori Leib, creative director for Bodyography Professional Cosmetics, says her tip for faking a fuller pout is to use colors one to two shades darker than your natural lip color. “Stick with a color that is neutral; nothing too pale or bright.”

Browns Give a Boost
“My favorite tool for creating a ‘fuller-lip’ look is a lip pencil,” Leib says. “I'll use a tawny brown to trace the edge of the lips, slightly overdrawing, and then use a more rosy brown to fill in and add contours.”
