All hail Cher. The Hollywood icon has been turning heads for many decades for her show-stopping beauty and fashion looks, but it’s her signature, long-hair style from 30-plus years ago that’s currently having a major moment—especially among the celeb crowd.

“The pin-straight, waist-length trend started in the ‘70s and ‘80s when Cher originally brought it to the spotlight,” says Brent Alstad, stylist at Malibu’s Cie Sparks Salon, who adds that, as much as most of us would love to grow our hair that long naturally, this look—worn by everyone from Kim Kardashian West to Niki Minaj—is generally created with extensions. But, if you aren’t ready to take that step toward Rapunzel-like lengths, Alstad says there are three easy-to-follow moves to achieve a similar look if you already sport longish-hair.
Step 1: Start by spraying damp hair with the Oribe Royal Blowout Heat-Styling Spray, and then blow-dry your hair stick straight with a large Ibiza boar-bristle round brush.
Step 2: Once the hair is completely dry, part your hair in the middle and begin flat ironing your hair in small sections (I use the Hot Tools flat iron), going over each section three times.
Step 3: After all of your hair is ironed, finish the look with the R+Co Foil Frizz + Static Control Spray and a few drops of Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Oil, for that ultra-shiny, soft style.
The most important step to the look? “Avoid sticky products such as hairsprays and texture products,” Alstad says.
