This Super Chic ’90s Hairstyle Is Back on the Map

The “Rachel” is back.

Some of the hairstyles from the ’90s were a bit grungy (almost greasy-looking at times), but the one that captured the hearts of women (and I’m sure men too) was the “Rachel,” inspired by Jennifer Aniston’s character on Friends. And now, as Harper’s Bazaar reports, this perfectly cut coif with the ends curled under toward the face, is making a comeback, with some of the biggest A-listers sporting the look.

Whether your hair is cut into a short bob (like Kylie Jenner’s below) or longer with layers (Olivia Palermo’s gorgeous locks below), these fun flippy ends are versatile. “This style works best for people with shoulder-length hair and above that is cut into longer layers,”says Sean James Decuers from Pierre Michel Salon. “It’s all about the cut.”

If you have time to get your hair blown out professionally (drybar stylists are masters at this type of style), leave the handiwork to them. But if you’re good with a round brush and your cut is one that will flatter this type of “rolled-under” look, more power to you. “Achieve this look best by skipping the hot tools and using a good round brush and volumizing spray to blow out your hair,” says Decuers. “My favorite brushes come from YS PARKS, and for volumizer, I like Phyto products, which are affordable and work great on all hair types.”

To DIY, Decuers says to use broader sections of hair, broader than your brush. “Smaller sections will only create more curl, while the larger sections will create the bounce you are after for this specific look. When blow-drying, blow the midsections straight out and the top sections straight up. Use the volumizing spray on your roots to give you the foundation you need along with texture, volume and bounce.”
