Hair loss can be a harrowing and complicated experience. And thanks to NewBeauty’s The State of Aesthetics Summer 2025 report, powered by the BeautyEngine platform, we know exactly what patients are turning to in order to solve it. In fact, two-thirds of respondents indicated that hair supplements or topicals were their first choice to address hair loss.

“A beauty supplement is a powder, capsule or pill that is formulated with known beneficial ingredients for skin, hair and nails,” explains Omaha, NE dermatologist Joel Schlessinger, MD. Options like the frequently recommended Nutrafol employ these vitamins and minerals to prevent hair loss, reinforce strands and power new growth.

Topicals like Rogaine, on the other hand, are powered by over-the-counter formulations designed to boost hair growth by stimulating blood flow and increasing the hair growth phase.

And with 66 percent of respondents indicating they would consider these options to address GLP-1-related hair loss, it's clear these are the first line of defense. Far fewer respondents would consider in-office or prescription options, likely because even experts often start with these more accessible options.

Before Columbia, MD dermatologist Chesahna Kindred, MD recommends any in-office treatment, she starts her hair-loss patients on daily Nutrafol supplements. “In my hair-growth protocol, Nutrafol is at the foundational level because its targeted approach addresses multiple root causes of hair loss, such as hormones, nutritional deficiencies, stress and inflammation.”

Previous BeautyEngine studies have revealed that Nutrafol is the most-used brand, with 42.8 percent saying they’ve taken it. Nioxin (26.9 percent), Viviscal (25.2 percent), Vital Proteins (24 percent), Nature’s Bounty (23.3 percent), and Vegamour (17.6 percent) also showed strong traction among respondents.

When it comes to topicals, minoxidil has a proven track record that makes it a reliable first option.

“Rogaine invented minoxidil over 38 years ago, and as the only FDA-approved topical treatment on the market, we’ve proudly helped millions of patients see real results in their hair loss journey,” says Paul La Terra, director of R&D Global Hair and Scalp at Kenvue. “Rogaine also continues to be a beloved and trusted first line treatment by dermatologists and hair experts because of its proven efficacy and safety with clinical testing on over 47,000 people globally. Often, hair loss is a difficult and personal experience for many, but we’re aiming to destigmatize it and are proud to be an accessible, trusted partner to help.”
