Yesterday we encouraged you to do something good for you by booking a Spa Week appointment and today we want to tell you about an opportunity to do something good for you and for others. October 15 marks the second annual Sustainable Beauty Day, a partnership between The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation and international hair-care brand Davines to plant thousands of fruit trees for impoverished communities in developing countries. On October 15, participating salons throughout the U.S. and Canada will offer cuts and styling services free of charge, for a recommended donation of $15 or more.

Last year’s Sustainable Beauty Day helped plant 6,000 fruit trees in deforested, poverty-stricken areas of Mozambique and South Africa, thanks to the $25,000 raised by the participating 54 salons.

This year’s goal is to raise over $50,000. The next set of plantings is scheduled to take place in February 2013 at schools, health clinics, community centers and low-income households in Sao Paula State, Brazil. The Foundation’s partnering groups in Brazil will lead an organized effort to plant and harvest the trees, ensuring that this will serve as a direct food source for those in need.

To contribute, find a participating salon and book your appointment or donate here.
