Celeb colorist Chad Kenyon’s Los Angeles clientele has “evolved into a new era”—something he says involves specifics, specifics, specifics about what they have in mind color-wise when they come to see him at Ramirez | Tran Salon.

“Right now, clients want bright—regardless of the level of lightness—but they also demand the ‘great grow out,’” he says. “They also want to be photo-ready 24/7.”

Which is why he recently created what he calls Vanilla Snow Cone Blonde, a more updated incarnation of his signature “Winter Blonde” shade that he’s been doing for years.

“It’s this icy-cool, bright, but simultaneously creamy color with precisely placed depth. So it delivers a sophisticated and approachable impact. I felt the need to update my traditional “Winter Blonde” because of the LA clientele demand, which is what Snow Cone Blonde provides for. The hand-painted depth is placed oh-so-precisely, so it ‘pushes’ light and attention to the lighter, brighter pieces of hair.”

The best news: Kenyon says even if you aren’t the ’round-the-clock social media–prepped type, the look is super easy to keep up—and, it has the not-so-simple side benefit of helping hide grays for longer.

“It’s low-maintenance, not no-maintenance,” he says, and recommends at-home steps of shampooing and conditioning with Olaplex N°s 4 and 5. “It’s also a great idea for my clients who want to hide grays, but aren’t ready for a base color, as well as those who have done the base-color thing and are over it. We can blend or erase grays with some hand-painted blonde ribbons.”
