As the demand for nonsurgical skin-tightening treatments continues to grow, more people are turning to energy-based procedures to help firm, lift, and rejuvenate their skin. In a recent survey of more than 400 NewBeauty readers,* we asked about their experiences with popular energy-based facial treatments. Among the respondents, 31 percent reported undergoing a skin-tightening or lifting treatment using an energy-based device, and of those, 39 percent had tried Ultherapy.

What Is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a heat-based treatment that is powered by microfocused ultrasound, which generates a thermal effect under the skin to deposit energy right where the skin needs it the most. This encourages the body’s collagen production process for a long-lasting lift. It is FDA-approved for use to lift the neck, chin and brow, and improve lines and wrinkles on the upper chest.

What Readers Say About Ultherapy

Readers shared a range of experiences with Ultherapy, with some praising the results and others noting some discomfort. One 61-year-old reader called it a “wonderful treatment with great results”, while another, 53, said, “I had great results—the procedure does hurt, but I had no downtime after.”

Some found it particularly effective for skin laxity, with one 64 year-old respondent sharing, “I believe it really improved my neck laxity.” Another reader, 43, noted, “I personally like Ultherapy. I’ve done it 3–4 times already and see results immediately.”

Another reader, 29, shared a detailed account of her experience: “My experience was largely positive, with noticeable results three months post-treatment. The procedure itself was relatively painless, thanks to the topical anesthetic applied beforehand. However, some discomfort and redness were evident immediately after. The results were subtle yet effective, with a visible lifting effect on my eyebrows and neck.”

The Bottom Line

Ultherapy remains a popular choice for those looking to lift and tighten their skin without surgery, but individual experiences vary. While some readers reported impressive results, others found the treatment uncomfortable or the results more subtle than expected. As with any cosmetic procedure, consulting with a board-certified provider to set realistic expectations is key.
