Entertainment powerhouse Kandi Burruss is currently promoting the Broadway revival of The Wiz, which premiered late-March. And as the producer, Grammy winner and Tony/Emmy nominee says, sleep plays as much of a role in her beauty routine as a really good red lip.
“I am truly in love with the Pretty Powerful ($25) shade of lipstick from my Kandi Koated Cosmetics line. I feel like everyone must have the perfect shade of red lipstick in their makeup kit, and this is the one for me. It’s a red matte color that lasts all day.”
“I love Kaleidoscope’s Miracle Drops ($21) for my hair. I had a bald spot in the center of my scalp, and after using the miracle drops, I noticed my hair started coming back. Another constant for me are my clip-ins; I get them from Conceal Virgin Hair. They are really flat, so they blend perfectly. Whenever a different stylist does my hair on set, they always ask me where I get them.”
“There are three products I’ve recently started using. First, I gotta give it to my girl Kenya Moore. Her Kenya Moore Hair Care Shampoo ($15) and Conditioner ($15) are amazing. Some shampoos leave my hair dry and brittle, but hers really moisturizes. Second, the NEOCUTIS Bio Serum Firm ($290). It is a moisturizer that rejuvenates the skin. My friend is a dermatologist and she recommended it to me. My third current must is Kopari Rose Gold Body Glow ($42). A makeup artist and friend used it on me, and I had to get my own; I loved it so much.”
“For my facial cleanser, I have to have the So² Nice to See You Sulfur Cleansing Complex ($67) from Pretty Faces Atlanta. That’s the medspa I go to. They have so many great products, but I’ve been using their facial cleanser for years, and so does my daughter Riley. We love that cleanser. I also really like using the Sephora Overnight Hydrating Face Mask ($16).”
“One product that I go to for setting my stage makeup is the On ‘Til Dawn Setting Spray ($32) from ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr. It locks that makeup so it lasts through the whole show. I also really need it when I do concerts with my group Xscape. I also like the Mehron Makeup Skin Prep Pro ($8).”
“After a performance, I like to use the Neutrogena Makeup Remover cleansing wipes ($5) to take my makeup off so I can relax. I have to have these; I do not sleep in makeup!”
“The best self-care is sleep! I’m always on the go, but if I can get some sleep after a performance, I will. I try not to go out after shows unless something really great is going on.”
“I have three beauty treatments that I love: Eyelash extensions—I like a natural lash look; a facial at Pretty Faces; and last but not least, getting my nails done by my nail tech, Nita aka ‘ImNails.’ therapist. We can talk all day!”
