One year after headlining Lollapalooza, Olivia Rodrigo made a surprise return to the festival stage as a guest of Smashing Pumpkins. The singer's softly sculpted makeup, created by celebrity makeup artist Melissa Hernandez, perfectly balanced luminous, lit-from-within skin with just a touch of gothic drama. It’s the clean-girl meets dark academia look we’re bookmarking for fall.
"Olivia's dress felt incredibly ethereal, but with this beautiful gothic edge," Hernandez says. "I wanted the makeup to capture that same duality, so we made her skin ultra-luminous and almost otherworldly, paired with soft washes of color and her signature liner to ground the look."
Skin prep is the most important step of any good makeup routine. To get Rodrigo’s skin all set, Hernandez started with a hydrating layer of Lancôme Tonique Confort Hydrating Facial Toner ($42), followed by Hydra Zen Gel Cream ($60).
Our favorite part of the look was the velvety rosy lip. To bring the lip to life, Hernandez lined and lightly filled the lips with Lip Idôle Lip Shapers ($25) in Taupe the Line and Nude Now. To achieve that trending hydrated, blurred matte finish, she applied the new Lip Idôle CuddleBlur Lip Velvet ($32) in Blushing Blanket.

For the subtly defined eye, Hernandez created a soft wash of color using Idôle Goddess Dimension Eyeshadows ($26) in Dawn Reflection and Meteor Smoke. She then drew Rodrigo's signature wing with Drama Liqui-Pencil Dramatic Eyeliner ($26) in French Chocolate, finishing the eye with voluminous lashes courtesy of Lash Idôle Curl Goddess Mascara ($30) in Black.
Rodrigo’s complexion was a canvas of Teint Idole Shapestick ($46), Ultra Wear All Over Full Coverage Concealer ($32), Ultra Wear Skin Transforming Bronzer ($45), Juicy Tubes Cheeks Blush ($25) in Fig Jelly and Juicy Tubes Cheeks Highlighter ($25) in Strawberry Glow Cream. Everything was locked in place with Idôle Makeup Magnet Setting Spray ($38) to help the look withstand the long, hot festival day into night.
