Kaitlyn Bristowe hasn’t shied away from sharing her recent experience with eyelid surgery, first revealing it during a December episode of her podcast, Off the Vine. But more recently, in an Instagram Reel, the former Bachelorette went into even more detail about her upper blepharoplasty journey—and shared a scary setback that caused one of her lids to heal slower than the other.

Bristowe explained that the plastic surgery procedure, which involves removing excess skin from the upper eyelid, took only 15–20 minutes, adding that she experienced “zero pain” and just “a little bit of itching after.” However, during the recovery phase, when stitches need to remain in place for 10–14 days, she ran into a hurdle of sorts. While everything seemed to be healing well at first, Bristowe revealed that one of her dogs accidentally clawed her eye post-surgery, requiring her to have it re-stitched.

Now, over a month post-surgery, Bristowe shared that the “scarring is healing nicely,” and she applies “a little bit of vitamin E oil” to the area. As previously reported by NewBeauty, recovery from eyelid surgery can include bruising and swollen eyelids for several days to a few weeks. Beverly Hills, CA oculoplastic surgeon Raymond Douglas, MD has also noted that “the area may be sore, tight, and itchy during that time period as well.”

The reality star concluded the video, saying, “I am not here to influence you or make you go get one and think you need one; I’m just simply being transparent and sharing my journey.” Her transparency comes as she continues to address criticism from those commenting on her appearance. In another Instagram post last month, she shared a powerful response to the ongoing scrutiny:

“Believe it or not I’ve done more work on the inside,” she captioned the post. “You can’t physically see that, but I’ve never felt it more. To the people who always wanna comment ‘you were so much prettier before all the work you’ve had done.’ I suggest you do the important work on the inside before judging what’s on the outside.”
