So many of us are counting down the days until we can get our hair colored again. Whether it’s impossible to get an appointment at your salon, or you’re trying to grow out your hair, here are five easy hairstyles that will hide your roots in the meantime.
Add a Headpiece
Headbands, scarves and bandanas are on trend right now, and offer a quick, convenient way to hide or distract from roots, depending on what you try. A few favorite brands offering a plethora of fashionable hair accessories are Lele Sadoughi, Free People, Slip, Scünci and GANNI.
Throw on a Hat
With summer coming up, a hat will both block you from a sunburn and hide your roots. If you still want sun protection without the hat hair, draw a line of sunscreen—preferably with a clear balm stick or powder for no-white cast—over your natural part.
The Top Knot
A top knot is a simple, effective way to hide your roots. The bun draws the eye to dyed hair and covers the back of the scalp. For extra effect, allow a few baby hairs and front pieces of your hair to remain loose, which adds depth to the look.
Half Up, Half Down
This hairstyle disguises your roots by covering grown-in sections with dyed hair. Take the top half of your hair, excluding the front parts that frame your face, and tie it up loosely at the back of your head. Use a scrunchie that matches your outfit, and you have an effortless, stylish look.
The Undefined Part
Much of our natural root color is seen at our hair’s part, especially on straight hair. An undefined part can help soften the line between dyed and undyed hair. Using a tailed or regular comb, start at your hairline and create a zig-zag pattern by sectioning off pieces of hair that will overlap each other until you reach where your part usually ends.
