Supermodel, actress, mother and now host and executive producer of Lifetime’s new beauty competition series American Beauty Star, Adriana Lima is a prime example of a woman who juggles it all without letting any stress reach her face (or body, for that matter—she’s the longest-running Victoria’s Secret Angel for a reason, right?). So when the 36-year-old model told InStyle a few of the interesting beauty and skin care tips she relies on to keep her looking fresh around the clock, we listened with wide eyes and zero judgement.

Jet-lag distraction
Like any big-time model, Lima is likely on board a plane more often than she is in her home, but she’s found a way to deal with time differences, exhaustion and puffy eyes and make it “as easy and as less visible” as possible. This includes exercise, drinking a lot of water and “lots” of moisturizer and gel on her eyes to curb any inflammation. “Then it’s concealer, mascara, and probably a red lipstick at some point to take attention away from my eyes.” Keeping the attention on the opposite side of your face with a classic red lip? Genius.

Mascara move
“My favorite thing is applying mascara,” Lima says, adding that her current favorites are Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies ($7) and Lash Sensational ($8). “I like it to be very black, and I like when you just apply lots of layers. So on my days off, I just apply over and over and over.” But her fascination is so intense that she purposely showers with her mascara on to see it run down her skin before she applies another coat. “When I shower, the mascara runs over my skin, I wipe it off, and I apply it on top again. I absolutely love it.”

Indigenous DIY
One beauty trick Lima has clung to from her Brazilian roots is using avocados to repair her hair’s dryness. She explains that the recipe is simple and involves one avocado and your favorite conditioner or hair mask. “You mash the avocado, you mix with whatever conditioner [or mask] you have, you put it on your hair, and you put on a shower cap for like 15 minutes. When you wash it off, your hair is gonna be shiny, shiny, shiny!”
