We all have those TV shows that come into our lives and, even though they’re long canceled, never really leave us. Thank you, streaming era! One of those feel-good, will-watch-whenever shows for me is New Girl, starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone. Since it debuted in 2011 and ended in 2018, I’ve seen every episode too many times to count. Each rewatch is like snuggling up in a cozy blanket.
I’m not the only one nostalgic for the New Girl era because Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone (Winston and Cece, respectively) currently host the show’s official recap podcast, The Mess Around. The recent episode focused on the season two finale, “Elaine’s Big Day,” aka Cece and Shivrang’s doomed wedding. More importantly, though, it’s the Taylor Swift episode.
Zooey Deschanel (or Jess, to the fans) joined Morris and Simone to reminisce about the many on-screen and off-screen shenanigans. She dropped some adorable info about Swift’s (or the titular Elaine’s) time on set. Not only did Deschanel gush over how “very, very down to earth” and “lovely” the singer is, but she also shared a story every woman can relate to: introducing a fellow gal to a beloved beauty product.
Before Elaine ran off to Vegas to elope with Shivrang (played by Satya Bhabha), Deschanel kept the Grammy winner company in the makeup trailer, where, according to Deschanel, Swift complimented the lipstick she wore. “It was…BeneTint, you know BeneTint. It’s just like the most old-fashioned lip tint that’s been around forever,” Deschanel explained. “And I remember Jorjee [Douglass] gave it to her, and she was like, ‘Oh my God, thank you so much.’ Like Taylor Swift was…excited to just get this little thing of BeneTint. Like she was unbelievably nice.”
We can absolutely understand Swift’s excitement over the Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Liquid Lip Blush & Cheek Tint ($25). The OG stain gives the prettiest rosy-red hue in seconds and stays perfectly in place for hours. The bottle may be tiny, but don’t let that fool you; a couple of drops is all you need for a Hollywood-worthy flush. Nicole Kidman is also a fan!
