Lilly Singh on SPF, Ayurvedic Favorites and Her New Sephora Collab

“When your hair and scalp feel healthy and good, it’s a game-changer!

Lilly Singh

Hair is part of our identities, and Emmy-winning entertainer and entrepreneur Lilly Singh is hoping to capitalize on that through her just-launched collaboration with Ayurvedic beauty brand AAVRANI, which hit Sephora last week. “We all have stories from high school about damaging our hair for a specific look,” the 35-year-old shares . “It makes for hilarious nostalgia.” Besides being big on hair and all the rituals that surround it, Singh recently chatted with us about what’s currently making the rotation on her vanity.

ID Card

“Ever since I was a little girl, my hair has been a huge part of my identity. When people meet me,it’s the main topic of conversation. They ask about my routine and hair secrets, which is why I’ve been particular about doing anything in the hair-care industry. I wanted to work with a brand whose values aligned with mine and who had products that I genuinely loved.”

Family Roots

“I grew up doing very traditional, natural hair-care methods, but I also used science-backed products. I believe in having
that balance of both.”

Protection Order

“The line is not just about making hair look good; it’s also about creating a protective shield to safeguard it from styling in a
not-so complicated way.”

Oil Pull

“As a kid, my mom oiled my hair weekly. She would comb it out and put it in a big braid. I lost that tradition when I got older, like a lot of us have done with various traditions. I am just getting back in touch with exploring routines that work best for me. I’m on a journey to figure out a mental health routine, a sleep routine, and now I’ve finally settled on my hair routine.”

Sunday Service

“Every Sunday, I oil my whole head—the AAVRANI hair oil ($35) is magic!—massage my scalp, and then wash and condition my hair. It sets me up for the week and feels meaningful. I feel prioritized and important by doing so. My Sunday routine is something I do not miss.”

Sun Smarts

EltaMD sunscreen is a product I use daily, without fail. Growing up, I had a complicated relationship with sunscreen because it would discolor my skin. EltaMD is the one of the few sunscreen brands I’ve found that does not change my skin tone, have an odor or leave that film-y feeling.”

Color Game

“Live Tinted is a brand I love! It is owned by a woman of color, so it’s made with someone like me in mind. For any discoloration
on my skin, I use their Huestick ($26) every time before I do my makeup. It’s my favorite color corrector.”

Brush Out

“I am new to Ayurvedic dry-brushing and have incorporated it into my Sunday ‘everything shower’ to help with increased circulation, exfoliation and more. Over the last few months, I’ve seen immense changes in my skin’s texture and glow.”
