Regardless of how her hair is styled—tonight, celebrity hairstylist Kelsey Deenihan traded in the star’s signature waist-grazing waves for a tousled, lived-in pony to keep the focus on the custom Dolce & Gabbanna gown—Ballerini’s hair remains bright and brass-free as ever. The secret to keeping blonde hair bright, according to Deenihan, is threefold.
Shine On
“Use shine spray to make sure the baby blonde pieces reflect as much light as possible,” says Deenihan. Once you’ve incorporated a shine spray to your blonde-hair toolkit, Deenihan says to keep an eye on your wash schedule. “Don’t over wash your hair, as it will fade your color,” she says. When washing, also opt for a violet-hued shampoo to counteract any brassy tones in your blonde hair.

Last but certainly not least on Deenihan’s prescription for a brass-free blonde: “Keep heat tools on low as to not fast-track the color turning brassy,” she says. “Yes, high heat will dull your hair color and will oxidize quicker, giving it that brassy hue.”
