According to Isaac Lekach, co-Founder & CEO of Flower Shop Perfumes Co., the surge in guava notes in fragrances was already evident before the heat of summer hit. "Tropical fruits have seen a bit of a resurgence recently...and summer, only seems to intensify the demand for juicy, exotic notes," he says. "The niche world often sets the tone, and the success of fragrances like Maison Crivelli’s Oud Maracujá ($23) has helped pave the way. Though guava and maracujá (passion fruit) are not the same, they both share a bright, tropical energy that’s very much in vogue."
So, guava is really a perfect note for an era of super tropical scents.
"Guava immediately evokes a tropical destination; some far away place with white sand beaches, where one might seek rest and relaxation with a piña colada in hand," Lekach explains.
Notes that Complement Guava
Guava isn't just for island getaways. "Guava is surprisingly versatile," says Lekach. "It can skew light and fresh when paired with citrus or soft florals, lean deep and sultry with leather, amber or resin, or go full gourmand with cotton candy, vanilla or creamy coconut. It all depends on the desired mood."
