We’ve heard the reports that the clean girl aesthetic is no longer reigning supreme—and in 2026, there’s already plenty of evidence to support the shift. One shining example: disco lips. The mirrorball-inspired lip trend arrived with the new year and shows no signs of fading as winter rolls on. “People are craving fun, playful looks that bring a party vibe to their makeup,” says professional makeup artist Sofia Schumann.
That appetite for more expressive beauty is showing up across red carpets, social feeds and backstage glam alike. “We’ve had enough of the slick bun, barely-there makeup, everyone looking the same," says celebrity makeup artist Judi Gabbay. "People want fun again. Personality again. Makeup that portrays a persona. Disco lips feel playful but still cool—they bring character back into glam. It’s confident, a little extra and very now." Gabbay points to Zara Larsson and the return of Euphoria as contributing factors.

What Are Disco Lips?
“Disco lips are basically high-shine lips that catch the light when you move. Think juicy, glossy, reflective—sometimes glassy, sometimes with shimmer or even a touch of frost,” says Gabbay. “It’s not sticky, not chalky, not throwback in a bad way. It’s shine with intention. Very Studio 54, but modern!”
Schumann describes disco lips as bold, sparkly and full of dimension, featuring “glitter, metallics and glossy finishes that really catch the light and make your lips stand out.”
How to Get Disco Lips
As with any great lip look, it’s important to start with smooth, hydrated lips, notes Gabbay. From there, the experts suggest using a soft, nude liner to outline the lips. Next comes the shine: Gabbay recommends a clear, glassy gloss for a vinyl-like finish, or a gloss with micro-shimmer or glitter if you want to really catch the light. Soft frosted or pearly glosses—or even a frosty lipstick layered under a sparkly gloss—are also great options if you’re leaning into the modern disco effect.
Alternatively, Schumann suggests using a nude liner, your favorite shimmer or glitter eyeshadow stick and a clear gloss to create a quick, playful look.
Pro tip: Gabbay likes “keeping the most shine in the center of the lips so it looks juicy and dimensional, not messy.” Schumann adds that the key to nailing disco lips is to “have fun with layers and textures. The more shine, the better.”
