In case you missed it, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has officially made his acting debut as Eddie Laclan in Grotesquerie, Ryan Murphy’s new show on FX (about “a detective and a nun as they set out to catch a brutal killer,” per the show’s official Instagram bio). But what’s really catching everyone’s attention is that Kelce traded his signature short hair, debuting a full-blown mullet for his role as a hospital attendant in the most recent episode of the 10-episode drama series.
For those who didn’t catch the mullet’s on-screen debut on Wednesday, October 16, it sure is making its rounds on social media. The series’ official Instagram shared a video featuring Kelce’s dramatic transformation, from his usual put-together look to his new shaggy mullet and laid-back ensemble, styled with a brown leather jacket over a plaid, open button-up, a plain white tank top, and blue jeans. “Nothing is what it seems. No one is who they seem,” the caption read, along with a note that “episode 7 of FX’s Grotesquerie is now streaming on Hulu.”
Unsurprisingly, Kelce’s mullet has sparked a flurry of reactions online, with many drawing comparisons to Billy Ray Cyrus while others jokingly referenced his brother, Jason Kelce. “WHAT IN THE BILLY RAY?” one person commented, while another perfectly summed it up: “People predicted a lot of things… but NO ONE predicted Travis with a mullet.” A third chimed in, calling it an “insane transformation”—and we couldn’t agree more.
