I can remember the first time my mom brought home Frédéric Fekkai products—the Brilliant Glossing Crème helped tame my frizzy high school mane into something way more polished, and I was hooked. Then came the pink Color Care line when I started dyeing my hair in college. I used the smallest amount possible because I didn’t want it to run out.

But memories aside, I’ve now fallen in love with a new line of products with the same famous moniker attached to them: The One by Frédéric Fekkai. It’s a brand-new, more sophisticated collection with different ingredients, but you can expect the same high-performance results and bouncy, shiny hair Fekkai is known for. And just to be clear, this is not replacing the original line—no need to worry; your go-tos aren’t going bye-bye.

Something else that’s different (in a big way) from the cult-classics? The packaging. Your shower and vanity will get an instant upgrade—the bottles look ultra high-class; everything from their shapes to their jewel-toned and metallic color palette are spot-on. Plus, the line is broken down into five collections including everyday use, color maintenance, damage control, frizz-fighting, and styling products, so you can easily find what you need to nail your favorite look.

At the heart of each formula is Norwegian Sea extract (a nutrient-rich marine ingredient) and skin care technologies such as environmental protectors that fight the effects of pollution on the hair similarly to the way they do on the skin.

The new scent for the collection was also inspired by the sea—the brand describes it as “a sparkling and vibrant scent that evokes the mystery of the ocean with refreshing, watery accords and addictive musks that will transport you to the luxurious Mediterranean Sea.”

Recently, I was able to experience the products at the Frédéric Fekkai Salon in Palm Beach, and let me just say, they did not disappoint. From the shampoo and mask to the texturizing spray and leave-in conditioner (one of my favorites of the bunch), my hair got the royal treatment, which left it looking and feeling totally renewed. Plus, Fekkai creative stylist Michelle Aloi gave me the full rundown on how she likes to use the new products:

“Application of products is so important! Start with shampoo (there are four formulas to choose from depending on your hair type) and just focus on your roots—the ends of your hair will be cleansed during the rinse. Then apply conditioner to the ends and work it in; what is left on your hands, apply gently to the top of your head, but not to your roots. Leave the conditioner in while you do everything else in the shower and then rinse well. I also recommend massaging a hair mask into your scalp a once a week. If you have color-treated hair, use The Brilliant One; otherwise, use The Ultimate One.”

For styling, Aloi recommends applying One Up volume spray to your roots first, followed by the One to Believe It leave-in conditioner from your ears down. “This will give volume at your roots and glossy, hydrated ends,” she adds. “No matter what style you are looking for, I always recommend pre-drying (air-drying or using a towel) your hair. Getting excess moisture out of your hair will put less stress on your strands while styling.”

If you’re going for a straight look, use a brush to blow-dry, but if you want textured hair, Aloi says to blow-dry your hair 100-percent using your fingers. Then curl or style as you wish. “And always let your hair cool down. If you pull on your hair when it’s hot, your curls will fall straight.” Then, use a wide-tooth comb to gently comb your hair back from your hairline to the ends. “Flip your hair upside down and spray One and Then Some texturizing spray into your hair, giving yourself a scalp massage using circular motions and scrunching your ends as you go. Finish with One to Hold hairspray and you’re all set.”

The new collection ranges from $26–$42 and is available exclusively at Ulta Beauty beginning this month, as well as Frédéric Fekkai salons (they will roll out throughout August). Trust me, you’re going to want these products in your bathroom stat.
