Just a few weeks ago, I attended an event with Clearblue to celebrate the launch of their new menopause stage-detecting tests, and had the pleasure of chatting with experts about all things menopause. While each individual I spoke with who had begun or finished their menopause journey had different stories, one sentiment rang true throughout: they all wished they had more knowledge or resources to guide them through this change.

Luckily, for any individuals approaching the menopausal stage of life, menopause in relationship to healthcare is finally being brought to the attention of lawmakers nationwide with the intention of making menopause a more well-researched and less tabooed subject. Just this week, a major step forward was taken in the stride to expanding the conversation on menopause, as the new Menopause Research and Equity Act was presented to Congress.

What the Menopause Research and Equity Act Means for Menopausal Individuals Nationwide

This week, state representatives and activists Yvette Clarke and Debbie Lesko joined up with the nonprofit Let’s Talk Menopause to officially present the Menopause Research and Equity Act to Congress, proving to be a big step forward in the direction of accessible menopause healthcare.

The Menopause Research and Equity Act is a revolutionary new bill that would require the National Institutes of Health to create a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals to evaluate and assess the current state of menopause research and put forth new recommendations for research, studies and resources to expand the area.

As Robin Noble, MD, a Let’s Talk Menopause board member and the foundation’s chief medical advisor explains, “This act represents a monumental shift in how we approach women’s health, particularly during menopause. It acknowledges the complexities and varied experiences of menopausal women, paving the way for more nuanced research and healthcare.”
