When it comes to the latest innovations and aesthetic treatments, it can be challenging to determine which ones are truly effective. New York dermatologist Jody A. Levine, MD, is always exploring the newest technology, but likes to ensure real results before offering new technology to her patients. “With the constant evolution of our field and new scientific developments every year, it’s essential to stay current,” Dr. Levine explains. “It’s important to do your homework and then to integrate new advancements into your practice to remain at the forefront of innovations.”
Concern: Hair Loss
Solution: PRP and Exosomes
Hair loss remains a significant concern for many individuals and Dr. Jody A. Levine emphasizes a comprehensive approach to treatment. “Hair loss can be caused by various factors, including nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, or genetic predisposition,” she notes. To address this, Dr. Levine employs Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and select exosomes. PRP involves drawing a small amount of blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets and injecting it into the scalp. “PRP has been extensively studied and is proven to stimulate hair growth by enhancing the health of existing hair follicles,” Dr. Levine explains. Typically, PRP treatments are administered monthly for several months, followed by maintenance sessions.
Exosomes, a newer option, are derived from stem cells and contain growth factors that promote cell regeneration. “While exosomes are still under study, combining certain ones with PRP can significantly enhance treatment effectiveness,” Dr. Levine adds. This combination approach helps strengthen hair and stimulate growth more efficiently. Additionally, oral and topical medications like minoxidil, known for its effectiveness in hair growth, are recommended to complement these treatments. Conditioning treatments and vitamins help maintain hair health as well.
Concern: Wrinkles and Fine Lines
Solution: Daxxify and RHA Redensity
Aging skin is a big concern, and two simple injectable fixes Dr. Levine recommends to soften and fill are newer to the market: Daxxify and RHA Redensity. “Daxxify, a newer neuromodulator, offers a longer duration of effect compared to traditional Botox,” she explains. “While Botox lasts around three months, Daxxify can extend up to five to six months, making it a great option for patients who prefer less frequent treatments.”
RHA Redensity is a specialized hyaluronic acid filler designed for treating fine lines and wrinkles that other fillers may not address effectively. “RHA Redensity is incredibly effective for those stubborn fine lines around the lips, neck and lower face,” Dr. Levine says. Its unique formulation allows it to blend seamlessly with the skin, providing a smoother, more natural appearance.
Concern: Skin Texture and Radiance
Solution: Lactic Acid Serum and CO2 Lift Mask
If your skin is feeling dull or lackluster, Dr. Levine recommends using skin care with actives that help bring life back into your skin. “My Lactic Acid Glow Serum is a gentle exfoliant that hydrates and brightens the skin and I recommend it to my patients who want a beautiful glow,” she explains. “It’s perfect for daily use under your moisturizer.”
For certain patients, she’s also a fan of the CO2 Lift Mask, a rejuvenating treatment that boosts skin oxygenation and reduces inflammation. “This mask is fantastic for post-procedure care and treating conditions like rosacea or general skin inflammation,” Dr. Levine says. It promotes healing and enhances the skin’s overall appearance through increased circulation and anti-inflammatory effects.
Concern: Loose Skin or Scarring
Solution: Morpheus8 and Micro Laser Peel
Dr. Levine addresses scarring and skin tightening with the combination of Morpheus8 and the Micro Laser Peel. “Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radio-frequency energy to stimulate collagen production,” she notes. “It’s particularly effective for treating indented scars and achieving overall skin tightening. A layer of PRP on top of the laser-treated area greatly enhances results.”
When combined with the Micro Laser Peel, a procedure that uses erbium laser to exfoliate the skin’s surface, the results are even more pronounced. “The Micro Laser Peel helps remove damaged skin layers, while Morpheus8 works from beneath to build new collagen,” Dr. Levine explains. This dual approach effectively targets both surface and deeper skin issues for comprehensive improvement.
Concern: Loss of Facial Contours
Solution: PDO Threads
To address sagging, Dr. Levine enjoys PDO threads. “They provide a natural lift by stimulating collagen production and tightening the skin,” she says. “They are particularly effective for lifting the mid-face and jawline and smoothing the neck.”
The procedure involves inserting absorbable threads into the skin, which gradually dissolve while stimulating collagen growth. “PDO threads offer a nonsurgical option for lifting and contouring the face,” Dr. Levine explains. “Results typically last about a year and the procedure can be easily integrated with other treatments like fillers and lasers. Threads can sometimes provide the lift that fillers can’t fully achieve while maintaining natural results.”
By incorporating the latest advancements in technology and treatment options, Dr. Levine says her patients not only look good but also leave her office feeling more confident and rejuvenated.
