If you’ve ever been hesitant to enjoy the skin pampering that is a Hydrafacial because your skin is prone to breakouts, this one’s for you. Now, the popular facial is adding HydraClear, a treatment booster designed specifically for acne sufferers. “HydraClear reflects where we are taking Hydrafacial treatments: beyond a premium facial to a more personalized skin-health platform that can address a broader range of consumer needs,” says Pedro Malha, CEO of SkinHealth Systems, Hydrafacial’s parent company. Here’s the scoop.
How HydraClear Works
HydraClear blends three potent acids—salicylic, succinic and tranexamic—in an alcohol-free formula to promote a clearer complexion. Salicylic acid is the pore-clearing workhorse, exfoliating dead surface cells and breaking down excess oil. Succinic acid helps soothe and refresh the look of skin while keeping its natural balance in check. And lastly, tranexamic acid helps visibly fade post-blemish marks for a more even-looking tone.
Witch hazel was also added to balance sebum production and to keep the skin barrier happy; soothing antioxidants and hydrating glycerin round everything out.

What the Study Found
HydraClear was tested as part of a series of Deluxe Hydrafacial treatments in a 12-week clinical trial of 26 people with mild-to-moderate acne. After four treatments, the clinical investigator saw a 38-percent average reduction in total blemishes, and 81 percent of participants had fewer visible blemishes.
Participants noticed changes along the way, too. After two treatments, 77 percent said their skin looked clearer and cleaner, and 92 percent reported improvement in at least one measure of confidence or well-being tied to their skin’s appearance. After three treatments, 85 percent said their skin felt more hydrated, and 81 percent saw more radiant-looking skin.
Chicago dermatologist Amy Forman Taub, MD, who led the trial, says the confidence piece is a big part of the story. “Acne is one of the most common reasons for a visit to the dermatologist, and its impact often extends beyond skin, affecting confidence, self-esteem and social interactions,” she says. “I led a clinical trial evaluating a treatment program with Hydrafacial hydrodermabasion, LED light therapy and the HydraClear booster for blemish-prone skin. We were pleased to see significant improvement in as little as two to four weeks, with results sustained at 12 weeks. Many patients want faster results, whether they are seeking an option without medication or a treatment to complement their current medications. Based on these findings, I believe Hydrafacial treatments with the HydraClear booster will be a welcome addition for patients.”
