Turns out, the secret to getting supermodel skin lies in the baby-care aisle. When Project Runway host Heidi Klum sat down with Elle UK (in May 2020) and, more recently, with Who What Wear this week, the 46-year-old gave a look inside her daily beauty routine—and revealed some surprisingly affordable secrets.
Skin-Care Staples
Klum says her greatest beauty discovery is La Roche-Posay Tinted SPF 50 ($37)—”It isn’t too heavy and is perfect for everyday wear,” she notes—but ours very well might be what she says next. When asked to name her last beauty purchase, it’s Johnson’s Baby Shampoo ($3). “I use it to wash my face, as it’s super gentle but effective.”
No Makeup-Makeup
Klum says her makeup routine takes 15 minutes. It begins with Charlotte Tilbury foundation and a quick lash curl before she applies L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara ($9). “To finish, I smudge Glossier Cloud Paint on my cheeks and fix my brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel,” she says.
Hair Help
Stars, they’re just like us. When asked what her worst beauty habit is, Klum’s response is surprisingly refreshing: “Cutting my fringe too short. My hairdresser is always reminding me to leave it up to him!”
Pimple No-Nos
“I tell my 16-year-old daughter that she must not pick or touch her pimples, but I do it myself,” the model admits. But her trick to avoiding scarring is learning how to pop those unwanted visitors the right way— with your knuckles. “If you don’t get it all properly, it will take longer to heal than if you had just left it alone.” Her other sidekick to avoid scarring: Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion ($17).
Moisture Must-Have
Because everything is so dry in Los Angeles, “I love to lather up some coconut oil in my hair and on my body too. It’s so inexpensive and it just makes everything feel so yummy and nourished,” notes Klum. “In general, I like going more towards the natural things instead of the sorts of products that are full of perfumes and astringents.”
You Are What You Eat
Although she swears by her topical go-tos, she notes that what really matters is what you’re feeding your body. “A lot of work has to go into every meal to make sure you’ve got all of the fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants and hydration you need.” When she can’t find the time to prep her healthy foods, she goes with a supplement—Perfectil ($18)—that’s “a great add-on to her already healthy diet.”
