If you’re as obsessed with Saturday Night Live as I am, Heidi Gardner is a household name for you. The queen of impersonations and quirky wigs and making audience members—and the occasional cast member—break out laughing during skits, 41-year-old Gardner is one of the hottest comedians of our generation. Not only is Gardner comedy royalty, she’s also an underrated beauty inspiration.
When I got to meet up with Heidi IRL a few weeks ago at a chic event celebrating TULA’s exciting new launches including their luscious 24-7 Moisture Day & Night Peptide Lip Mask ($18) and Rose Glow + Get It Hydrating Peptide Lip Treatment ($18), one of the first things I noticed was her insanely perfect skin. “She’s 41?? Her skin looks like butter,” I recall my friend Lara saying to me, and I couldn’t agree more. Luckily, I got to sit down with Gardner and chat about everything she’s doing to stay looking so fresh on and off screen, and of course share some laughs along the way.
Your skin is insanely amazing. What does your current skin-care routine look like?
“In the morning I splash cold water and then I use a hyaluronic acid serum and moisturizer. At the moment it’s TULA’s 24-7 ultra hydration serum for my hyaluronic acid hit and Grown Alchemist Hydra-Restore Day Cream ($50). I’ve also been incorporating red light therapy throughout the day, or at night right before bed. I use the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser($18) at night and the TULA 24-7 Weightless Moisture ($58) and their 24-7 power swipe hydrating day & night treatment eye balm ($44) along with the new 24-7 moisture day & night peptide lip mask ($18).”
Do you have any makeup products you know will never fail you even if you end up crying laughing on set?
“Easy—On til Dawn Setting Spray ($32).”
What does your post-show reset routine look like?
“I always double wash my face after the show first with an oil based cleanser, such as the Dermalogica Precleanse Cleansing Oil ($49) and then a foaming one. I love CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser ($18) at the moment. After that, I put on a sleep mask and try to sleep as late as I can on Sunday, which sadly is usually about 7:30 a.m. But, I love a good Sunday morning cappuccino and breakfast burrito or Essa Bagel.”
You wear a lot of hats on SNL and by hats I mean wigs. What’s your favorite look transformation you’ve done for a skit and have you ever been convinced or almost convinced to make the change for real?
“I got to play a curly haired guy with a mustache and hairy legs for the ‘Last Dance’ sketch. That felt very freeing but I do continue to shave my legs. I didn’t make it a lifestyle change after all.”
What is the one beauty tip or trick you’ve learned from a castmate throughout your time on SNL?
“Chloe [Fineman] told me to put some of my skin care in the fridge. I love that tip! It’s so refreshing!”
