Emily Blunt can do no wrong on the red carpet, and tonight’s 95th Oscars’ celebration in Los Angeles is no exception. (I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for The Devil Wears Prada sequel.) A presenter for Best Picture, Blunt stunned in a white, strapless Valentino gown, which celebrity hairstylist Laini Reeves says inspired the actress’s sleek, soft updo. Here’s how she created the look.
To prep her hair for the misty LA weather, Reeves used John Frieda Frizz Ease Replenish & Repair Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner, which just launched in January. Next she applied Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray to Emily’s wet hair—yes, you read that right—to give it some volume, starting from the back of her head and moving to the front. We’ve never tried hairspray on wet hair, but Reeves says that by doing so, especially on the roots, “you achieve lots of volume and texture right away.” Then she blow-dried it to add some lift to the roots.
Once the hair was dry, Reeves applied Frizz Ease Extra Strength Serum to smooth the ends, and then brushed them through with a round brush for a “sleeker, more finished look.” Next, she created a center part and “pulled the top part of her hair into a horseshoe section and put the hair underneath in a ponytail.” She then added the horseshoe section into the ponytail, braided the hair and formed a bun. “I loosened some strands out a little, creating a softer, romantic look, and then pinned it into place.” Another spritz of hairspray locked everything in place for the hours-long event ahead.
