Plastic surgery isn’t meant to be done anywhere other than an operating room and by anyone other than a board-certified doctor. Unfortunately, not everyone follows these recommended guidelines, with one of the more notable rule breakers being rapper Cardi B.
Looking for a brand new-silhouette, Cardi B reveals to GQ that four years ago she paid $800 for illegal butt injections performed in a basement in Queens. According to the article, Cardi B’s reasons behind going through with the procedure varied: “She wanted fat for her ass because (1) her boyfriend had recently cheated on her with a woman who, per Cardi, “had a fat, big ass” and (2) she’d observed that her colleagues with big asses made more money than she did stripping, regardless of dancing technique.”

While the procedure was obviously less expensive than typical butt injections (butt enhancement procedures generally cost around $4,800), Cardi was still satisfied with the quality of results in her new look. The overall experience, on the other hand, was a different story: “They don’t numb your ass with anything. It was the craziest pain ever. I felt like I was gonna pass out. I felt a little dizzy. And it leaks for, like, five days.”
Looking to get a touch-up soon after the procedure, Cardi realized she couldn’t return to the same women, and the reason why is pretty terrifying. “But by the time I was gonna go get it, the lady got locked up ‘cause she’s supposedly killed somebody,'” explains Cardi. “Well, somebody died on her table.”
Moral of the story: Don’t leave any plastic surgery procedures in the hands of inexperienced, illegally practicing “doctors.” While Cardi B was lucky nothing overwhelmingly bad happened during her own illegal procedure, the health risks—death included—are higher than you think under those circumstances.
