Skin boosters have become one of the buzziest ways to get plumper, smoother, more hydrated-looking skin. While injectable versions have long been popular overseas, only one is currently FDA approved in the United States. Teoxane’s newest launch taps into the same skin-quality trend but takes a topical approach.
Teoxane’s new RHA Topical Skin Booster isn’t injected. Instead, a provider applies the sterile hyaluronic acid–based liquid immediately after microneedling, allowing it to reach freshly treated skin through the tiny channels the procedure creates. The in-office treatment is now available through authorized aesthetic providers nationwide.
You Still Get Poked
There is one important distinction: This isn’t a needle-free skin booster. Nothing in the vial is injected, but the treatment is designed specifically as an add-on to microneedling.
Once the microneedling portion is complete, your provider applies the booster directly to freshly treated skin. And unlike a serum you might take home and continue using, this is a one-time, in-office application.
Why the Timing Matters
Microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-injuries that kick-start the skin’s natural repair response. It also temporarily creates channels that allow ingredients applied afterward to penetrate more readily. In fact, combining microneedling with topicals isn’t a new concept. Experts have long used the treatment as an opportunity to apply ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and growth factors.
According to Teoxane, skin permeability peaks within the first two hours after treatment, while the skin remains in an active recovery phase for roughly 72 hours. That short window is the reason the booster is applied immediately in the treatment room rather than added to your routine days later.
The goal is the kind of result that has made skin boosters so popular: skin that looks more hydrated, plump, smooth and luminous, only delivered in a very different way.
“What happens in the hours following a procedure can be just as important as the treatment itself,” says Austin, TX dermatologist Ted Lain, MD. “During this period, the skin is actively repairing and rebuilding. The RHA Topical Skin Booster was developed specifically for that environment, helping support recovery while enhancing the overall treatment experience and long-term skin quality outcomes.”
Davie, FL dermatologist Lesley Clark-Loeser, MD sees that post-treatment window as part of the procedure itself. “I often tell my patients that the procedure ends, but the treatment doesn’t,” she says. “What we apply immediately afterward can play an important role in supporting the skin as it heals.”
Why Not Just Use Your Own Serum?
Freshly microneedled skin isn’t the time to reach for just anything in your skin-care routine. “Rather than reaching for a traditional off-the-shelf serum that may contain preservatives, fragrance, or other ingredients never intended for compromised skin, we now have a formulation specifically developed for this unique biological window,” Dr. Clark-Loeser says.
The formula is sterile and preservative-free and comes in single-use 5 mL vials that are opened for treatment and then discarded. That distinction matters when caring for skin after microneedling, when experts generally recommend keeping potentially irritating ingredients away from the temporarily compromised skin barrier.
What’s Actually Inside
At the center of the formula is Resilient Hyaluronic Acid, the proprietary crosslinked HA technology associated with Teoxane’s RHA filler collection. Here, however, it has been formulated as a topical treatment, not an injectable filler. The booster contains RHA at a concentration of 12.5 percent, or 125 mg/mL, which the brand says is its highest concentration in a topical formula.
What to Expect After Treatment
After microneedling, skin immediately enters repair mode. “Barrier function is temporarily altered, transepidermal water loss increases, and patients often experience redness, tightness, and sensitivity,” Dr. Clark-Loeser says. That recovery process continues for several days.
The booster is designed to support skin during that window, and early testing suggests it may help with some of those immediate effects. In an instrumental test of 20 volunteers, Teoxane found a 17.6 percent reduction in transepidermal water loss within one hour of application. In a separate 31-person panel, 97 percent reported a tightening effect, while 91 percent reported smoother skin and 89 percent reported firmer skin after five days.
“Patients can expect their skin to feel more comfortable immediately after treatment, with improvements in hydration and a healthier-looking, more radiant complexion as the skin recovers,” Dr. Clark-Loeser says. “Many also notice that the skin feels smoother and appears more refreshed.”
There are also early findings around what may be happening beneath the surface. Ex vivo testing on donated human skin tissue found a 60 percent increase in collagen I and a 62 percent increase in epidermal hyaluronic acid after five days. Those are laboratory findings, not a prediction of the results patients will see on their own skin, but they offer an early look at why Teoxane sees the booster as more than a temporary hydration step.
“While every patient heals differently, the goal isn’t simply to make the skin feel moisturized for a few hours,” Dr. Clark-Loeser says. “It’s to create an environment that supports the skin’s natural repair process and complements the regenerative effects of the procedure itself.”
