Camila Alves McConaughey is one of those striking beauties. With elegant features, glowing skin and natural hair, she embodies the image of a confident Latina woman. Yet, within minutes of meeting her, all that fades away as the peace she radiates makes you feel like you’re talking with a friend. She openly shares her wisdom and makes you feel right at home.
Alves McConaughey is a NYT Bestselling author, entrepreneur and founder of the lifestyle and food site Women of Today. She is true to herself and has a clear sense of what’s most important in her life: family, her passion for well-being and living with purpose and intention.
“I’ve always tried to improve in everything I do. I’m always eager to learn. And if you’re trying to improve yourself, that will eventually lead to well-being, and it will show in all aspects of your life. Sometimes we get stuck thinking that well-being is about eating this or that, or following this trend. But we’re all different. If we try to follow what others are doing, we may not get the same results. But if you’re seeking improvement for yourself, you’ll learn what works for you and what doesn’t in all areas of your life, and that will bring you true well-being, peace, real health, a genuine perspective and true happiness,” says the Brazilian model.
This life philosophy has laid the foundation for one of her most fulfilling projects. Women of Today, a platform created by Alves McConaughey, is a community where women of all ages can learn from each other through authentic connections.
“I created Women of Today when I realized how important and how lacking community is for women. We tend to think we can solve everything ourselves. But the reality is that the lessons we’ve all learned in life—there’s a reason we’re learning them. And yes, many of us may say we’re learning these lessons for our families and for those closest to us, to make an impact there, but why not have a bigger impact, and why not learn from one another?” she reveals enthusiastically.
This generous spirit and eagerness to share wisdom also extend to the topic of physical beauty but from a holistic perspective.
“I truly believe that beauty comes from the inside out. We’re living in a time when society asks us to cover up, hide everything, add this, add that, do this. You know, I’m not against any of that. I wear fake nails when I need to, I cover my gray hairs, I’m not against that at all. You need to use the tools, but we can’t think that’s the only way to achieve beauty. If you use the beauty tools from the inside out, then you’ll need the least amount of external products, and everything will be in harmony, and everything will grow beautifully,” says Alves McConaughey.
Alves McConaughey is a living example of this healthy approach to beauty. When we ask her what she’s using to maintain that radiant skin we noticed upon meeting her, she shares:
“I’m not a nutritionist, but I learned about the benefits of flaxseed oil. I take a teaspoon of flaxseed oil daily; I simply put it in a yogurt mix I prepare in the mornings, and I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skin and hair.”
That’s how she enhances her well-being from within, while for her external care, she uses two products from skin-care expert Mila Moursi, whom many consider Hollywood’s best-kept secret (thanks, Camila!).
From Mila Moursi, she swears by the Toner ($55) and Lifting Serum ($440):
“She taught me something important. After using each beauty product, you should gently tap the skin: tap tap tap. Wait a minute for it to absorb, then apply the serum and do the same,” she shares.
Another product that’s been working so well for her that she decided to invest in the brand is One Skin’s Face Topical Supplement ($120).
“They’re using technology that stops the aging of a cell and interrupts the aging chain with the surrounding cells. I love the science behind this brand,” she tells us.
She also uses One Skin’s Body Topical Supplement ($99) for the rest of her body and has noticed a difference in the lines that sometimes form on the tops of her knees.
On days when she needs something more intense to moisturize her face, she shares that she uses Intensive Replenishing Facial Moisturizer ($200) from the brand Retrouvé (and with the humility that distinguishes her, she apologizes for the high price, assuring us she uses it in small amounts).
Another beauty secret Alves McConaughey considers one of the most important is lymphatic massage. This type of massage, which has become popular on social media, is something she’s been practicing since living in Brazil. She emphasizes that it’s crucial to find someone who truly knows how to do it and to avoid any “expert” who presses these delicate lymphatic areas too hard.
Finally, she shares that sometimes, the best beauty tip is knowing yourself so well that you know when to stop using what’s within your reach.
“Recently, I had events and parties, and it was an intense few days. Suddenly, I realized my skin was a bit broken out and the texture wasn’t quite right, so I told myself, I’m using too many products, my skin needs a rest. For days, I didn’t use anything, I just washed my face and let my body do what it knows how to do. Shortly after, everything returned to normal. And with that, we return to where we started, wellness—the well-being is knowing what your body needs and paying attention to it,” she adds.
When we ask her about her future projects, with that same calmness we now know contains passion, work ethic and determination, she tells us she wants to invest her time in what currently feeds her soul.
“I’m truly focused on this new phase of Women of Today, I want to invest more time and effort into the women in this community and bring them more of what they ask for. If I can impact a woman to make her path easier, to make her journey towards better performance for herself easier, that’s all I can ask for,” she concludes.
Thanks to her generous spirit, there’s no doubt that the community Alves McConaughey is building will continue to grow, and we’ll soon see more of the impact generated by Women of Today, something that fills us with happiness and pride.
