I Tried a 14-Day "Teatox"—And It Worked
By Sophie Dweck |
I’m not one to take the winter so easily; the days drag on for me as I count the days until summer. One of my favorite cold-weather activities is taking frequent mini-vacations to escape the brutal chill. The only problem? How I could get bikini-body ready in just two weeks.
I decided to read up on tea detoxes or "teatoxes," but only found mixed reviews. Some users said they had seen results within days, while others said they were shams. I was on a mission to find something that would help me lose weight and reduce bloating.

After more research, I came across Your Tea’s Tiny Tea Teatox ($35). Based in Australia, this teatox not only claims to reduce bloating, excess weight and toxins, but also assures consumers that it isn’t a laxative tea (because who wants to spend their vacation in the bathroom). Based on traditional Chinese Medicine principles, the tea is designed to nourish and cleanse the digestive system. I decided to give it a go.
The instructions are very clear and the company's website answers any questions you may have. Each bag should be infused in hot water and consumed 30 minutes before or after every meal, three times a day. The tea contains Chinese herbs that also aid in indigestion, alleviate common skin problems, claim to reduce cellulite and increase energy.
During the teatox I ate a healthy, balanced diet and followed the eating principles that the brand recommended. Although I didn’t experience an upset stomach, the package warned that customers may mildly break out the first few days, which I did. According to the company, this meant the tea was working and performing changes internally.
To my surprise, I saw instant results. I felt energetic, like the tea promised, and my bloating decreased. Instead of dreading workouts, I looked forward to them. The taste of the tea wasn’t so bad either—it had an earthy flavor I didn't mind at first, and after a week, actually started to enjoy. This alone made it easier for me to stay on the teatox. I was no longer craving sugar and fried foods, and by the end of two weeks, I was down almost five pounds.
Before I knew it, I was on the beach sporting my new body with a cocktail in one hand and a book in the other.
And, if weight loss isn't your issue but you're still interested in trying a teatox, Your Tea also offers a wide range of other teas for fertility issues, skin problems, post-pregnancy and more.
