Let’s Just Get to the Point:
Bottom line, no one likes brassy hair. No matter if you’re a natural blond or spend hours in your colorist’s chair and drop hundreds of dollars to get a sun-kissed hue, the day your strands take a turn for the worse and start to bear signs of an unwanted and unpleasant shade that’s reminiscent of a penny, you have no choice but to resort to some sort of toning product. Purple-based shampoos and conditioners are a godsend for the perpetually light and this new trio puts brass to shame like no other.

If You Want to Know More:
The Eva NYC Tone It Down! Purple Shampoo ($12) and Conditioner ($12) (the shampoo and conditioner both launch in April) are mega players in this spanking-new trifecta, but it was its Tone It Down! Toning Foam ($12) that really caught my eye. This leave-in treatment—apply it to damp, freshly washed hair (use it as needed) to neutralize brass and add shine—makes use of a violet formula that kicks blond strands into high gear by mitigating every last trace of those coppery and brassy tones.

An avid devotee of purple- and even blue-based shampoos, both of which can unfortunately leave hair dry although they do the trick to take down unwanted hues, when I tried the shampoo, conditioner and foam myself I couldn’t believe just how soft and shiny my hair was. Thanks to argan oil and a protein complex, it left my overly processed ends as smooth as silk and my roots with an unbelievable amount of volume. Just one go at it was all it took to bring my recently blondified hair back to a lighter shade of pale without a drastic change in color. And, it did an excellent job of toning down the overtly ash tones in my strands just enough that the overall color was still bright but not yellow.

To make the most of the collection, it’s best to use the shampoo, conditioner and foam together. But even if you choose to mix and match the products with some of your other beloved tone correctors, this collection will be any blondie’s new best friend.
