At 84 years young and looking as youthful and vibrant as women half her age, Dynasty legend Joan Collins has more than one trick up her sleeve. In a recent interview with the Mirror, the star’s makeup artist revealed how the much beloved on screen legend keeps super dark circles at bay and her eyes camera ready.

During her early days in Hollywood, long before she became a household name as Alexis Carrington Colby Dexter, Joan shared a dressing room with the likes of Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe, who she says she copied this beauty hack from while getting ready on set. "Before doing her makeup for an event, Joan always starts by making sure she hasn’t got puffy under-eyes," said makeup artist Alyn Waterman. "She soaks cotton pads in a bowl of ice, then lies down and places them over her eyes for a few minutes."
Dame Joan Collins is no stranger to beauty and makeup advice, and in 1980, she literally wrote the book on the subject in how-to glamour guide called The Beauty Book. In this vintage makeup tutorial, Collins takes British talk show host Michael Parkinson step-by-step through her makeup routine. The star outlines how to highlight high cheekbones and disguise a double chin, proving that the concept of contouring has been around for a lot longer than the Kardashians.
In the throwback clip, Collins uses paint brushes to blend out her eye shadow, something we’re all used to doing now, but was foreword thinking at the time. “Of course, with every generation makeup changes and I think now that young girls wear a lot less makeup” she says in the tutorial. “Basically, if you know you own face...and you’ve got to experiment and really work out what looks the best. And that you have to do by yourself or with a friend, that’s how you find out what looks the best.”
