Why This $9 Razor Is Taking Over the Internet

For too long, I viewed razors the same way I did toothbrushes: They all do the same thing and I’ll always have to buy one, so the cheapest one is fine with me.

But when a surprisingly chic-looking razor kept popping up on my Instagram feed with countless editors and influencers singing its praises, my ears perked up: Could there be a razor someone actually enjoys using?

Cut to present day, I’ve been a faithful Billie customer for a number of months, and there’s no question why the brand has been so successful since its launch just three years ago. Here’s what to know about the cool-girl razor brand.

Everyone is using it.
Literally. Billie racked up 100,000 Instagram followers in its first year, and now, influencers are singing its #nonsponsored praises at every turn—and it’s working. According to the brand, 60 percent of purchases happen after someone discovers Billie on social media—and after seeing their lineup of rainbow-bright hues, you’ll be clicking “add to cart,” too.

It’s innovative.
Aside from its aesthetically pleasing branding—they currently offer four handle shades, ranging from classic pastels to fun neons—Billie has also gone the extra mile and thought of problem-solving solutions we’ve been subconsciously waiting for.

My favorite innovation of the bunch: the “Magic Holder,” a tiny triangle that adheres to your shower wall and magnetically grabs onto the handle when you’re done shaving to keep your razor clean and out of yucky puddles. (See it in action below.)

Next up: the detoxifying factor. We’ve heard of soap- and lotion-infused razor heads for a soft finish, but this one is made with natural charcoal soap to ensure a deep clean, a close shave and a little dose of detoxifying bliss with every swipe. Plus, you’re a frequent traveler, be sure to pick up the Razor Travel Case ($5), which is a perfect fit to house your new beloved razor (yes, it’s ventilated, and yes, it’s magnetic, too, so the razor won’t go flying around).

It works.
I’ve fallen for more social media–famous brands than I can count, and as a result, have been underwhelmed just as many times—but I was pleasantly surprised this time around.

Admittedly, the magnetic shower holder is what spurred me to give Billie a try (so simple yet so ingenious), but when I heard countless reviewers mention how Billie’s superclose shave had allowed them to stretch their shaves for a little bit longer, I immediately ordered my set.

As someone who would have to shave everyday or every other day, I can now easily go three days without shaving (a true feat for my jet-black hair and pale skin). Plus, the razor blades are free of nickel, which just so happens to be one of the most common skin irritants when it comes to shaving. (Read: no more razor burn!)

It makes life easier.
Instead of purchasing an entirely new razor every month or so, Billie makes swapping out blades easy by shipping them to your door, at your own pace. Simply choose how often you’d like to receive a replacement of blades at checkout (four are shipped each time) and forget about it.

If you’re not sure how often you’ll need new blades, select how often you shave, and your personal shipping frequency will be recommended for you. The best part: You can change, pause, delay or cancel these shipments at any time.

It’s affordable.
And now for the best part: Billie is cheaper than many of the razors we’re already buying. The Razor Starter Kit includes a razor handle in the color of your choice, two blades, a magic holder and free shipping—all for $9. Each shipment of replacement razors (four) will set you back $9, too.
