Priyanka Chopra Jonas has joined the choppy bob bandwagon—at least for a few hours. The 41-year-old actress debuted her chic new hairstyle on Monday, May 20, at the Bulgari Aeterna High Jewelry event in Italy. She complemented her $43 million diamond necklace with her stylish new haircut—which, for the record, was a convincingly realistic wig.
In a since-expired Instagram Story, Chopra filmed her hairstylist, Thibaud Salducci, chopping her hair, thus tricking her 91.1 million Instagram followers into believing it was the real deal. As a text overlay on the video, she cheekily wrote: “When the jewels deserve a haircut for a better view.”
Fans were initially convinced that Chopra Jonas’s bob was real until she revealed her signature long hair on another red carpet the next day. “So the queen didn’t trim her hair; it was a wig,” a follower commented on the photo of her with longer hair. “She got us.”

The former Quantico actress isn’t the only celebrity who recently fooled fans by pretending to make a dramatic haircut change. Just last month, Katy Perry did the same. She posted a video on Instagram showing her hairstylist seemingly cutting off her hair, with the caption, “thoughts, comments, concerns? 👇🏼.” The post quickly ignited social media, with people flocking to the comments section to share their mixed reactions.
However, in a follow-up post, Perry shared more glamour shots of her new hairstyle, but urged her followers to swipe to the fourth image for the truth. “You guys had a lot of strong feelings about my haircut,” she said in a video clip. “Let’s see that energy for KP6 because this is just a wig,” she added with a wink. (KP6 refers to her sixth studio album, which she’s been teasing her fans with for a while now.)

Even though some celebrities are opting for the faux bob, many others are committing to the real thing. “We’ve been seeing it more and more, but starting 2024 with a new fresh cut has been the trend of the season and what I think will be the trend of the year,” celebrity hairstylist Jill Buck told NewBeauty in an interview about spring 2024 hair trends. “Celebs like Hailey Bieber, Zendaya, Julianne Hough and Jewel have all made the move. There is something so refreshing about cutting off old energy and unhealthy ends. I personally cut 14″ off and love it!”
The trend is predicted to continue well into summer. According to Pinterest’s Summer 2024 Trend Report, countless users are searching for inspiration for trending bob hairstyles. The razor cut bob is the most popular, with an 8,200 percent increase in searches, followed by the Italian bob with a 1,100 percent increase, and the 90s layered bob with a 985 percent increase. Fear not, though, no matter which you decide on, you’ll be on trend.
