As we learn more and more about the dangers and prevalence of skin cancer, our focus on how to effectively prevent the disease remains at the forefront of our minds. Luckily, there seems to be new brands and genres of sunscreen on the daily, but that doesn’t always mean that these sun-care essentials are universally accessible. This summer, the Netherlands has taken a huge step in making skin cancer prevention accessible with their new free sunscreen campaign.

Recently, the Netherlands has been facing record levels of skin cancer, which prompted the country’s decision to provide free sun protection for all citizens. Throughout the summer, sunscreen dispensers will be available in several locations, from schools and universities to festivals, parks, and open spaces across the country, the government explains.

This new drive to improve sun-care practices is thought to be inspired by Australia’s slip slop slap campaign, and Dutch authorities have explained that the main goal of this new initiative is to make sunscreen application a second-nature habit for all citizens. Regardless the inspiration, these are initiatives we can all get behind.
