After some whispers and some Andy Cohen–fueled prodding, Sonja Morgan took to Instagram Monday to set the record straight on her “refreshed” look.

“There’s been speculation around my fresh new look. I got a lower facelift and necklift after wrapping Season 12,” the 56-year-old Real Housewives of New York City star captioned in a post. “I just wanted to be rid of the wrinkling on my neck and the jowels that were starting to form. People thought I was nuts because it was so subtle. But not to me! It was a no-brainer—gravity had taken its toll, I was also exhausted and I needed a ‘pick-me-up.’”

Morgan went on to share that she went to New York facial plastic surgeon Andrew Jacono, MD for the procedures. “I entrusted my face to the best @drjacono and he hit it out of the park. He uses a method called deep plane which goes under the muscle so your skin is still attached. Your blood flows and your face stays vibrant and heals fast. Pick up his book #parkavenueface to read more. I did!”

As Dr. Jacono told us, the deep-plane facelift and necklift were performed under twilight anesthesia in two and a half hours and the procedure was “very much” timed around Morgan’s filming and appearance schedule.

“I performed Sonja’s procedure in February, so she did her initial healing in NYC before she left for her trip a few weeks later in March,” he shared, when asked about how Morgan’s quarantine in Palm Springs played into her post-surgery instructions. “While it depends on the procedure, I usually ask my patients not to travel for the first week after surgery.”

In addition, Dr. Jacono has another recommendation for recovery: Oxygen therapy.

“My patients are usually extremely busy individuals, often in the public eye and eager to return to their lives as quickly as possible. My minimally invasive facelift technique has a ten-day recovery time and we recommend patients undergo hyperbaric oxygen therapy both before and after surgery. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works to increase oxygen to facial tissue and stimulate the growth of new blood vessels, which in turn, contributes to a faster recovery.”

As for the result, both doctor and patient (and pretty much every single commenter on Morgan’s popular post) are beyond pleased.

“The result of Sonja’s deep-plane facelift is amazing because she has naturally strong facial bone structure, which acts as a beautiful scaffolding,” Dr. Jacono says.
