Let’s Just Get to the Point:
Purely Radiant Daily Hydrating Serum ($85) is a only-need-a-drop silk-infused serum seriously ups skin hydration with a light-as-air formula.
If You Want to Know More:
Fancy ingredients typically don’t fare well with my sensitive skin. Gold, pearls and even the casual propriety fusion are almost always precursors to breakouts and overall badness—a real drag because they seem to give everyone else amazing results. My extremely corny mantra: When I keep it simple, I avoid the pimple.
Of course, there’s an exception to every rule and I can be very easily swayed when a brand has a cool ingredient story. Such is the case when I met Jennifer Halliday, VP of business development at Boston-based Silk Therapeutics. The company is basically a “liquid silk startup” (they also have some incredibly cool things they’re doing in the fashion space in the pipeline) that’s steeped in science and sustainability—more specifically, they really seem to be on to something with their patented “pure liquid silk” technology that’s the cornerstone of the skin care.

While Halliday admits silk in beauty products isn’t totally new, this version is pure, which not only helps boost collagen, lock in hydration, firm and smooth, but it actually ends up replacing harsh chemicals and synthetic additives in the formula. The company is also really into transparency—one of the star products, the Purely Radiant Daily Hydrating Serum, comes in at a still-keeping-it-simple nine ingredients, avoids EWG’s ingredients of concern, and is phthalate-, paraben- and fragrance-free.
And for my face? The serum didn’t make it freak out—at all. The non-sticky texture soaks right in and accomplishes that hard-to-achieve level of non-oily, simply glow-y hydration that makes anything and everything you apply after look automatically better. I’ve been using it for about a month now, and I also definitely see the very positive side effect of having an uptick in my skin’s luminosity level, even when I’m not wearing it. My mantra may need some revisions.
