Glowing skin is often framed as a product story, but for Pritika Swarup, model, entrepreneur and founder of Prakti Beauty, it starts with something deeper. On a recent episode of The Beauty Authority, she traced her approach back to growing up with an Ayurvedic practitioner mother, where beauty was never separate from overall well-being. “Beauty and wellness are really connected to my personal journey and just my heritage,” she says. “It’s about the balance of mind, body and consciousness.”
That early perspective shaped how she sees modern skin care today. While she acknowledges the advancements in the category, she points to a gap in how skin is often treated. “We were approaching beauty in this more surface-level, quick-fix way,” she explains, adding that what was missing was the idea of “thinking about skin as an ecosystem that you have to balance for longevity.” For Swarup, the goal is not just to address immediate concerns, but to support long-term health while creating rituals people actually enjoy and stick with.
Skin Starts With Balance
At the center of that philosophy is inflammation, which she sees as one of the most important and often overlooked drivers of skin issues. “Inflammation is the cause of so many different skin issues—reactivity, acne, redness and a disrupted skin barrier,” she says. Rather than isolating those concerns, she connects them back to everyday triggers, from environmental stressors to over-exfoliation, poor sleep and diet. “It’s really talking about reactions that can be caused by so many environmental factors, especially stress,” she adds.
That understanding shifts how routines should be built. Instead of constantly adding new products, Swarup emphasizes consistency and restraint. “I feel like you have to pick a few and stick with them,” she says. “A lot of people are always putting something new in their routine, but it messes up their balance or all of a sudden they’re really reactive.” A simpler routine that supports the barrier and keeps inflammation in check often leads to clearer, more stable skin over time.
Small Rituals, Real Impact
Beyond products, Swarup highlights the role of daily practices that support circulation, detoxification and stress regulation. Facial massage, in particular, is often misunderstood. “Everyone thinks about facial massage like it’s for sculpting, but it’s really about circulation and your lymphatic system,” she says. By stimulating lymphatic flow, these techniques support the body’s natural detoxification process, while increased circulation helps deliver nutrients to the skin and cells.
She also points to the connection between the nervous system and visible skin quality, noting that simple practices can make a meaningful difference. Breathing exercises, meditation and even small daily rituals can help regulate stress levels. “There’s so much you can control with your breath,” she says. “Even if you’re very nervous, like a little breath control, all of a sudden you’re in control.” Techniques like two-to-one breathing, where the exhale is longer than the inhale, help “release all of the stress, all of the tension,” and can be done anywhere, even during your routine.
Across everything, the takeaway is less about doing more and more about doing things consistently. “Consistency is super important,” she says, noting that even simple habits, from facial massage to splashing cold water on the skin, can support circulation and create visible change over time. The result is a version of glowing skin that feels less reactive, more balanced and ultimately more sustainable.
