With temperatures rising (and rising and rising) many people—myself included—are heading to the hair salon to shed some length and lock in a shorter ‘do for summer. Opting for a bob to keep you cool in the hotter months has been a trend for quite some time, but all it takes is one celebrity hair look to totally shift the tides when it comes to hair trends, and Selena Gomez’s long, cascading strands may have just convinced us to put down the scissors.
Selena Gomez Debuts Longer, Silky Hair
For a while now, Rare Beauty founder, singer and Only Murders in the Building star Selena Gomez has been rocking a shoulder-length look—a lob, if you will. But, during her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! alongside her Only Murders co-star Martin Short, Gomez debuted a much longer style than we’ve seen from her in years past.
With hair down past her chest, Gomez revealed her new summer look on the talk show, and we can’t get enough of her side-parted, sleek and oh-so shiny strands. How’d she make the change, you ask? According to the experts behind the style, Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri with Nine Zero One, some versatile extensions and a good styling spray will do the trick.
“This hair can look chic with a bouncy blowout or give beachy vibes just by spraying In Common’s Magic Myst ($35) and air drying,” says Lee. “The different textures that can be created with Great Lengths Extensions are endless. I chose Wella Color Touch to create a rich brunette and give Selena’s hair life after all the filming she did these past few months.”
Another key part of Gomez’s new look is her chic, textures cut, to which Riawna explains, “After we added in the extensions, I gave her a textured long layered haircut with curtain bangs. This haircut is very versatile for Selena when styling. We love this look on her!”
